Experience the 'Salmon Capital of the World' on a sightseeing cruise featuring wildlife viewing and a taste of locally caught Alaska seafood delicacies at a historic cannery. Cruise aboard an Alaskan built vessel exploring the rugged coastline of the Tongass Narrows and glacier-carved George Inlet. An onboard Naturalist will share local knowledge and point out places of interest and wildlife. As wildlife is sighted, your experienced Captain will maneuver the vessel to provide the best possible views.
The expedition includes a visit to Walden Rocks, a favorite seal haul-out and prominent gathering place for bald eagles and marine birds. Whales, sea lions, and porpoises are also frequently sighted in this area.
At the historic Libby Cannery, situated in a remote rainforest setting, you will taste your way through Alaska's robust commercial fishing industry. The experience begins with a hearty bowl of salmon chowder and introduction to this once bustling maritime center. Then, you will have the opportunity to meander through the well-preserved cannery, visiting displays that highlight Southeast Alaska's various fisheries including; trolling, purse seining, long-lining, and crabbing. Each interactive display offers a taste of a delicacy related to the given industry. Locally caught offerings include salmon - smoked onsite, salmon roe, halibut, oysters, and crab served two ways. While at the Cannery, be sure to check out the historic Tsirku canning line - the only functioning equipment of its kind in the world.
A beautiful rainforest trail will lead to your deluxe motor coach for a narrated trip back to Ketchikan. The scenic drive provides an opportunity to glimpse the world's largest collection of totem poles at Saxman Native Village, and view historic Creek Street - a colorful row of charming homes and shops built on pilings over Ketchikan Creek.

Note: All guests are required to navigate tide variable ramps and access stairs onto the motorcoach and boat. Comfortable shoes and warm layered clothing is recommended. The sampling menu will be served inside of the George Inlet Cannery at set stations that guests will visit during the guided tour. Menu to include: complimentary bottled water, hot chocolate, coffee, and soft drinks, with beer and wine available for purchase. Locally caught seafood delicacies include: a hearty bowl of salmon chowder, smoked sockeye salmon, salmon roe, halibut, oysters, crab and a variety of beach edibles. In the event the oyster fisheries are compromised we will substitute with geoduck, or another locally caught shellfish. Wildlife sightings are frequent, but not guaranteed.
