Great Stirrup Cay Updates: What’s New in Paradise

Great Tides Waterpark is an exciting new attraction coming to Norwegian Cruise Line’s private island, Great Stirrup Cay. As construction progresses, guests are invited to follow along and check back for the latest updates on this highly anticipated experience.

June Update: Construction continues at a rapid pace across Great Stirrup Cay, with several major attractions entering their final phases and behind-the-scenes systems coming together as the island prepares for its highly anticipated opening.

The new Waterpark has reached approximately 75% completion, marking an exciting shift from structural work to finishing touches. The remaining mid- and upper-tower steel sections are now in place, and themed elements have arrived on the island, bringing the park’s signature attractions one step closer to their final look and feel.

Across the park, momentum continues as more experiences near completion. Cliffside Cove is now complete, while work continues on the Great Slide, Wandering River, Tidal Tower, and Aqua Play Structure, with each making significant progress toward completion. Landscaping, pathways, and guest amenities are also taking shape, helping transform the construction site into an immersive island destination.

With every milestone reached, Great Stirrup Cay is rapidly transforming into an even more exciting destination. As construction enters its final stretch, guests are one step closer to experiencing the island's newest adventures.

The new Waterpark remains on schedule, and the slide tower has now reached approximately 60% completion. Recently, major steel sections for the middle and upper portions of the tower arrived on the island, marking another exciting phase of construction.

Work is also moving steadily throughout the park, including installation of pathways and interactive splash zones, along with continued development of immersive guest spaces designed for families and thrill seekers alike. Decorative features and custom design details for the slide tower have also been completed and are expected to arrive on the island in early June.

Behind the scenes, teams continue advancing important infrastructure and operational improvements to support the island’s transformation and ensure everything is ready for opening day.

With visible progress happening every week, Great Stirrup Cay is quickly evolving into an even more exciting destination—and we can’t wait to welcome guests to experience all the adventure beginning September 4.

April Update: We’re thrilled to see construction moving full steam ahead, with the vision truly starting to come to life before our eyes. Over the past month, the progress has been incredible—major milestones like the Tidal Tower, Splash Cay, and roof frameworks well underway. Across the waterpark, foundations for all major structures are now in place, and you can already start to see the experience taking shape.

From the towering slide beams to the immersive tunnel walls of the Wandering River, each new element adds to the excitement. The iconic giant bucket has also found its home in the Splash Cay, bringing us one step closer to the fun-for-the-whole-family experience that Great Tides promises.
