Walking towards Alfama, the oldest most fascinating and characteristic neighborhood of Lisbon. Through its cobbled labyrinth narrow streets and alleys. Visiting Alfama is getting lost in a maze of streets, alleys, lanes, steps, squares and courtyards, going back in time and feeling the authentic soul of Lisbon. It’s stepping into a small village within the city, where everywhere you turn is a postcard view with tile panels, street art, pastel colors, fountains, arches, potted plants, orange trees, clotheslines, and beautiful river vistas. The walking tour will continue going down to the most central city quarter, named "Baixa" where guests will have the chance to admire a totally rebuilt area after the 1755 earthquake. This area is one of Europe´s first remarkable examples of town planning and is now the heart of Lisbon. Walking along the busy streets guest will arrive at the Elevador da Glória or Elevador do Lavra. This funicular was opened in 1885 and in 2002 it was classified as a national monument. Located on the west side of the Avenida da Liberdade, in Restauradores square, the Gloria funicular connects Lisbon’s downtown with the Bairro Alto. The ride spans 265 meters and takes approximately 5 minutes, taking the guest to the São Pedro de Alcantara Belvedere, a stunning look-out point with views of the city and castle. The Chiado lively quarter is the next one to be explored,it is a traditional shopping area that mixes old and modern commercial establishments. After this energetic walk along the vibrant streets of the city return to the ship by walking.
