Behold the beauty of several massive glaciers formed in the last ice age, all of which are in Josteldalsbreen National Park, one of the most pristine natural areas in Norway.

After departing from the pier, you will embark on a 75 minute drive through a spectacularly scenic landscape shaped by receding ice and rivers. Ahead lies Josteldalsbreen National Park, which encompasses the largest glacier in mainland Europe. A remnant of the last ice age, the ancient glacier divides Sognefjord and Nordfjord, two of the world’s longest fjords.

Although glaciers move almost imperceptibly, the landscape around them constantly changes according to the time of the year. The change is particularly apparent in the summer, when glacial melt creates rivers, the vegetation perks up, and the valleys become remarkably green.

Mother Nature is always top of mind in this part of Norway, especially around spectacular Josteldalsbreen Glacier and its more than 50 branches, including blue-hued Nigardsbreen Glacier. This glacial branch is relatively easy to access, so you may see adventurers scaling its icy slopes while you pause for photos and behold the majesty of the landscape.

You will enjoy a different perspective of the glacier from Nigardsbreen nature reserve, a highly protected wildlife oasis that borders larger Josteldalsbreen National Park.

Then, after stopping for a hot beverage, you will pause for photos of Bergset Glacier, yet another branch of massive Josteldalsbreen Glacier. It covers the top of a mountain that climbs steeply from the bottom of the lush Bergset valley.
