First developed in the 17th century, Welchman Hall Gully is a natural wonderland where hundreds of species flourish. The monkeys are named for their thick greenish-golden fur, which looks particularly striking against their dark blue faces. Head out to sea on a spacious boat purpose-built for fishing and try to catch some of the hard-fighting fish that inhabit the waters off Barbados. It won’t be long until Captain will have you in prime fishing grounds ready to start reeling them in. Bait and tackle will be provided so all you have to do is concentrate on landing a big one. The captain and crew will also offer tips so you can increase your chances. If you hook a mahi mahi – also known as a dorado – you can expect a good fight as these fish typically grow to a length of three feet and weigh up to 30 pounds. Blue marlin, wahoo and yellowfin tuna are also commonly caught in these waters. They are tasty too as you will discover firsthand once the fresh catch is prepared for lunch in a Barbadian sandwich called a fish cutter.
