We’re so excited to reveal the godparent of our newest ship, Norwegian Viva. We're pumped about this one. He's a chart-topping, GRAMMY® nominated and five-time Latin GRAMMY®-winning singer, songwriter, musician and producer. He's the artist behind the historic global phenomenon Despacito. That's right, Puerto Rican superstar Luis Fonsi is joining previous NCL godparents like Katy Perry and Pitbull.

What Is A Godparent?

Giving a new ship a godparent is a naval tradition that dates back centuries. It's said to bring the ship good luck as it travels the world. The godparent attends the ship's christening and is the one to break the celebratory bottle of champagne against the ship's hull. This summer, Luis Fonsi will be the next celebrity to have that honor.

Luis Fonsi, An Award-Winning Global Star

Because of his love for Puerto Rico, Fonsi has worked tirelessly to help people on the island. He donated medicine and other basic needs and helped build houses in the community of La Perla through his foundation.

Meet Norwegian Viva: Our Newest Prima-Class Ship

Launching this summer, Norwegian Viva is the second ship in the all-new Prima Class following in the wake of Norwegian Prima's launch in summer 2022. Me gusta Norwegian Prima, Norwegian Viva is full of wide-open spaces where you can enjoy the view from a lounge chair, an infinity pool or even the race track.

Live It Up as you take in the onboard show, Beetlejuice: The Musical, straight from Broadway. Then, watch an astounding transformation take place right before your eyes. The theater seats move and the space transforms into a vibrant club scene where you can dance the night away to music curated by our DJs.
