Prince Edward Island has a rich Scottish heritage and nowhere is it reflected more than at the College of Piping and Celtic Performing Arts of Canada in Summerside. Home to North America's only full-time bagpiping school, the pipers, drummers and dancers have won international honours for their Celtic skills. You'll be greeted by a piper upon arrival and led into the main hall, where the piper will tell you the fascinating story behind the creation of this award-winning facility. You'll be treated to a presentation about the history of the bagpipe and a demonstration of how it works. You'll learn about the history of the Highland snare drum and its construction, and the drummer will share his drumming dexterity with you. A Highland dancer will treat you to a variety of steps and attire, as well as explain the heritage of the dance. Following the presentations and performances there will be an opportunity for you to try your hand at drumming, playing a pipe chanter or maybe a group Highland Fling. Before heading back to Charlottetown, you'll have the opportunity to check out the College's branded apparel.
