Mozambique Cuisine. Colonial Landmarks.
Originally developed in the 18th century as a town surrounding a Portuguese fortress, the city was originally named Lourenço Marques until it was officially renamed to Maputo in 1976. As Mozambique’s capital and largest port, Maputo is a melting pot of cultures, which is reflected in its diverse restaurants. Much of the city has undergone major renovations during the last decade. Shaded sidewalk cafes, a rich arts scene, historic sites and markets provide a glimpse into the city’s past and its vibrant modern atmosphere.
