Immerse yourself in the beauty and history of Langkawi by visiting an unusual rice museum and soaring over the rainforest in a cable car.

Enjoy views of paddy fields, where buffalo may be cooling off in the muddy water. Quaint Malay Kampung (villages) are scattered all over the island, giving you a true insight into the landscapes of Langkawi.

Stop to visit the Rice Garden, a museum with exhibits demonstrating the vital role rice plays throughout Malaysia. Strolling about the museum, you will be immersed in the history of the rice industry. There are displays devoted to rice planting, a tiered rooftop rice garden, and a traditional rice village. You may also see tools once used in the cultivation and harvesting of rice.

Drive to the foothills of Mount Machincang and ride on Langkawi’s biggest attraction, the cable car, to enjoy fantastic panoramic views of the surrounding rainforest and sea. If it’s a clear day, you may even catch sight of the islands off southern Thailand. You will have some free time at the top to further enjoy the views.

Time permitting, following the ride, you will have some free time to shop in the Oriental Village located at the cable car’s base.
