Svaneke Village & Sustainable Brewery

OVERVIEW

Meander through the wonderfully preserved former fishing village of Svaneke before an enlightening look at Bryghuset, the only brewery on the island of Bornholm. The village exudes history as many of its streets are lined with half-timbered buildings from the 16th and 17th centuries. Besides being home to Denmark’s oldest windmill, Svaneke is known for its distinctive red church, parts of which date to 1350. The village is just as determined to protect its future as you will discover while visiting the sustainable microbrewery Bryghuset. Its organic beers are brewed using a solar-powered, carbon-neutral process. The quality of the locally sourced ingredients, especially the water – which is so clean it is left untreated – results in extraordinarily tasty beers. You will sample several of them before continuing to the Nylars Rounded Church, a medieval landmark constructed in 1160. Its walls are reinforced as the building was originally designed for defensive not religious purposes.
