Trams, Treasures, & Tranquil Waters

After a short transfer, your first stop will be the tram depot. Here, your guide will introduce you to the varied history of public transport in Rostock, which has been closely intertwined with the city’s development over the past 140 years. You will have free time to take photos of the historic vehicles and vintage ticket machines on display, as well as to explore the small museum featuring detailed models of trams traveling through the northern German countryside and the city of Rostock. Following the depot visit, continue to the historic city center for your guided walking tour. Upon arrival, step back in time to see the highlights of Rostock, Mecklenburg Vorpommern’s largest city, during a guided walk. Proceed to northern Europe’s oldest university, the University of Rostock, founded in 1419 and built in Italian Renaissance style. Continue on a leisurely stroll through the Kroepeliner Strasse and Am Neuen Markt and explore the quaint shopping streets, which have flourished since the reunification of East and West Germany in 1990. You’ll see the 15th century Town Hall with its 18th century Baroque front structure, and St. Mary’s church built around 1398 (exterior visits only). Then enjoy some time at your leisure (strictly time permitting). After reuniting with your guide, walk down to the jetty to begin a relaxing cruise along the Warnow River, transferring you back to the ship. During your approximate 50-minute cruise, you’ll be served some typical snacks and refreshing drinks or German beer.
