The Wine Cathedral & Tasting

Tour a wine cellar with such an unusual church-like design that it is known as the Wine Cathedral and enjoy a tasting of its most representative vintages. Catalan architect Cèsar Martinell designed the Ademats cellar in 1917 and it instantly became a modernista landmark in Nulles, a village in the Alt Camp wine region. The guide will describe the building’s fascinating architecture, how the wines are produced and the unique local terroir, which the warm Mediterranean climate and sea breezes affect in positive ways. During the tasting of wines and cavas that follows, you will likely sample whites made from Macabeu, Xarel-lo or Moscatell grape varieties. More recently, the winery has expanded its production to include more reds, in particular from Tempranillo grapes, which are locally called Ull de Llebre – meaning “eye of the hare” – for their appearance. Artisanal breads and olive oils will be served to enhance the experience.
