Begin with a panoramic drive for a view of the San Felipe de Barajas Fortress, situated outside the walled city. This fort is considered to be the most outstanding feat of Spanish military engineering in the new world. After a quick drive through the narrow streets of the walled city, you’ll continue along the coastline to La Boquilla fishing village. You’ll visit the Cueva del Manglar, a protected eco-system that`s teeming with birdlife.
Embark on a leisurely canoe ride through the mangrove tunnels. As you glide through the swamp waters, keep your eyes open for a diversity of birds such as kingfisher, white heron, common Laura, pink spatula and pelicans. Relax as you enjoy the beautiful flora and fauna that encompasses this fascinating eco-system. Enjoy a panoramic tour of the old city of Cartagena on the drive back to your ship.
