Discover how injured parrots are rehabilitated at the Echo conservation center and then hike through a reforested area looking for yellow-shouldered Amazon parrots. As an introduction to the island’s natural wonders, you will take a circuitous route to the center, driving along the ocean, and on to Goto Lake, where you may spot flamingos. You will delve deeper into the challenges of protecting Bonaire’s birds, especially parrots, when touring the center with a naturalist. It will be inspiring to see how the birds are rescued, rehabilitated and eventually released back into the wild. To enhance your experience and understanding of Bonaire’s endangered Amazon parrots, you will follow the naturalist into a replanted section of dry forest looking for these magnificent birds. Chunky and brightly colored, they are easy to identify. The birds are usually seen in pairs that remain monogamous throughout their lives, which typically last about 40 years on Bonaire.

Note: This tour includes approximately 1.5 hours of walking over even and uneven ground plus any additional walking at the guests' discretion, therefore this tour is only suitable for the fit and healthy guests which can walk the trails. It is not recommended for guests who utilize a wheelchair. Those guests with mobility concerns are cautioned to evaluate their personal level of ability and stamina. Casual, weather-appropriate clothing and comfortable, trekking shoes are suggested. At the Echo Conservation Center guest must be able to walk narrow, steep hiking trails without help. Trails are narrow, up and down through dry forest with cactus, bushes and trees. It is mandatory to wear trekking shoes and recommended to bring sun hat, sunglasses, mosquito protection. The trails can slippery after rain. Guest should bring insect repellant. There is no guarantee to see wild parrots. We can only guarantee a few residents.
