OVERVIEW

Take in the spectacular view from atop crater-shaped Seaongsan Sunrise Rock and then visit a traditional village that reveals the rich culture of Jeju Island. The rock is named in part because it lies on the island’s easternmost shore and attracts locals that gather to watch the sunrise. Formed millennia ago in a series of underwater volcanic eruptions, the crater looks like a crown because 99 jagged rocks surround its huge circular top. It is so stunning that UNESCO designated it a World Natural Heritage. You may ascend to the jungle-covered bowl at the top or remain below. Both perspectives offer fabulous views. You will next visit Seongeup Folk Village. Created as an expression of traditional Korean life, the re-created village contains several rock-walled thatched-roofed houses. Other highlights include Confucian shrines, fortress ruins and ancient government buildings. Many of the traditions and even the dialect spoken there have been handed down over the generations.

Note: Coaches do not have a lift and entering and exiting must be done via stairs. This tour includes approximately 2 hours of walking and standing over even, and uneven surfaces. The sights on this tour are not wheelchair accessible and therefore, it is not available to wheelchair guests. At Seongsan Sunrise Peak guest can climb up to the Peak with over 570 steps at their own risk and responsibility. Seongeup Folk Village grounds are paved but uneven and includes some steps. Those who wish not to walk up to the peak can have a free time at the ridge. those guests with mobility concerns are cautioned to evaluate their personal level of ability and stamina. Casual, weather-appropriate clothing and comfortable, flat walking shoes are suggested.
