Atlantic Ocean Road & Hustadvika

OVERVIEW

Gaze out over the island-dotted countryside around Kristiansund by following the dramatic Atlantic Ocean Road, a zig-zagging coastal highway that was named Norway’s Engineering Feat of the Century in 2005. One of the first bridges that you will cross is a suspension bridge just south of Kristiansund. Its sleek, modern design makes a stunning architectural statement against the pristine backdrop of mountains and sea. Awe-inspiring sights are common along this route and you can expect to see western Norway’s natural landscape in all its glory. Farstadsanden is one such place as its beach is incredibly scenic. While pausing, you may spot surfers, a water sport not often associated with Norway. Another stop will be made for coffee in a guest house in the beautiful seaside town Hustadvika. Another highlight is driving through the 3½-mile Atlantic Ocean Tunnel. Its lowest point is nearly an eighth of a mile below sea level.
