Experience Bruges like a local by exploring areas off the beaten path but still in the shadow of landmarks such as Kruispoort. Although you will stop at this 15th-century gate, the sites that lie ahead will reveal a lesser-known but not less spectacular side of Bruges. You will see windmills along medieval ramparts, follow atmospheric lanes through residential neighborhoods and pause at the bridges and inner canals that gave Bruges its nickname, the Venice of the North. Upon arriving in St. Anne’s, you will behold the Jerusalem Chapel, which was designed to mirror the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem. By the 16th century, Bruges had become a textile center for woven lace, and you will observe a demonstration of this artisan trade that continues to flourish. Another way to become immersed in local life is at the Markt, a sprawling square that has been a marketplace for more than 1,000 years.

    HIGHLIGHTS:
    • Explore atmospheric areas of Bruges that are typically unknown to all but the locals.
    • Cross landmark canals that gave Bruges its nickname, the Venice of the North.
    • Watch a demonstration of lace making, a trade that has flourished in Bruges for centuries.

Swim in the crystal-clear waters off Grand Bahama with a passel of cute, friendly pigs and then spend time shopping at the largest open-air marketplace in the Bahamas.

After departing from the pier, you will enjoy a scenic drive along the western tip of Grand Bahama Island. Along the way to Deadman’s Reef at Crystal Beach, you will hear about the wild pigs that inhabit this part of the island. It’s not known exactly why or when pigs were introduced to Grand Bahama, but it will become obvious that their descendants have thrived.

Once you wade into the shallow waters, you can expect the pigs to follow, knowing that food awaits. The guide will show you how to feed the pigs and the best ways to interact with them while swimming. The pigs couldn’t be friendlier, cuter or more enthusiastic about the attention. You might even learn their names, as many of the pigs are regulars.

Following this unusual experience, you will enjoy free time in Port Lucaya Marketplace, the largest open-air shopping and dining venue in the Bahamas. The marketplace has dozens of duty-free shops, two straw markets, two craft centers and a variety of restaurants.

You might shop for exquisite jewelry, designer fashions and fine leather goods. There are several art galleries well worth browsing for local paintings and watercolors. The marketplace also offers all sorts of dining options and cuisines.

Relax on this panoramic driving tour of Corsica’s spectacular interior, a land little-changed over centuries. Pass through Cuaro village and beautifully rugged, mountainous terrain, resplendent with lush forests. You’ll see the dense shrubbery known as “maquis” blanketing the countryside and inhale the extraordinarily fragrant evergreen, interspersed with aromatic lavender, myrtle and wild mint. Journey past modest vineyards and cultivated fields before you enter peaceful Pineta Forest, dominated by tall, striking laricio pines, expansive chestnuts and dramatic beech trees. Enter heart-stopping Prunelli Gorges with its jagged granite walls and descend through serpentine twists and curves. Arrive ultimately at serene, man-made Tolla Lake, source of Ajaccio’s hydro-electric power, and snap a postcard-worthy photo. Sharp pinnacles emerge from the forest just past Tolla, a ridge-top village nestled into the mountainside, then the amazing vista opens to an expanse of fertile valley below. Delight in numerous picturesque hamlets, including Ocana, known for austere granite homes, and imagine everyday life in this timeless land.

Visit several of Old Town’s most iconic sites, which gained even greater fame after serving as locations for the fictional capital King’s Landing in “Game of Thrones.”

After departing from the pier, you will soon arrive in the oldest section of Dubrovnik, a revered UNESCO World Heritage Site. Fans of the TV series “Game of Thrones,” which is based on George R. R. Martin’s “A Song of Ice and Fire” fantasy novels, will recognize this part of Dubrovnik as King’s Landing, the fictional capital of the Seven Kingdoms.

Your first stop will be imposing Lovrijenac Fortress, located just outside the medieval walls that encircle Old Town. Known as Dubrovnik’s Gibraltar, the 11th-century fortress perches atop a craggy rock overlooking the sea, which represented Blackwater Bay in the books.

Continuing on, you will enter Old Town and make your way to the defensive walls to the south. After climbing the steps, you will walk along the stone battlements, which afford extraordinary views of the sea and the inner city. These walls appeared in numerous scenes in “Game of Thrones”; they were particularly prominent in the Battle of Blackwater Bay.

Later, you will enjoy free time within Old Town, where you may explore other sites that you may recognize from the series. For instance, the Jesuit Staircase was where Cersei Lannister began her Walk of Shame in Season Five, and many of the show’s market scenes were filmed along St. Dominic Street. Following free time, you will return to the pier.

Explore the village of Krousonas and engage in activities that will provide an authentic glimpse into daily life. Your first stop will be the St. Irene of Kroussonas Monastery, which was extraordinarily affluent in the 1600s. However, the monastery was abandoned during the Ottoman rule of Greece, left in ruins and not rebuilt until 1940. Following an enlightening tour of the monastery now turned convent, the resident nuns will offer you a homemade sweet. You will next visit the village of Kroussonas to meet some of the shopkeepers, starting with a boot maker and baker. Both will be quite willing to discuss their businesses and day-to-day lives. To become even further immersed in the local culture, you will watch a folkloric dance performance, see a cheese-making demonstration, learn to prepare Cretan cheese pie, and taste local varieties of olive oil and wine. Few culinary experiences are so wide ranging and informative. A traditional Cretan lunch follows.

    HIGHLIGHTS:
    • Delve into local life in Krousonas, a village on the eastern slopes of the Ida Mountains.
    • Browse a convent that was an affluent monastery in the 17th century
    • Converse with shopkeepers, watch a folkloric performance and sample traditional foods.

Travel by panoramic coach on a tour that offers fascinating insights on the lives of those who make the sometimes-harsh landscape of Iceland’s Westfjords their home. Beginning from the pier, you’ll drive through the streets of Isafjordur and out along the coastal road for a tour of wondrously remote Bolungarvik, a fishing village towered over by its surrounding mountains. Nearby, you’ll stop at the outdoor Ósvör Museum, where a century-old fisherman’s hut has been restored, complete with the tools of the trade – and the fisherman.

On another leg of the journey, you’ll find yourself up amidst breathtaking views of the magnificent mountains of the Djup, largest of the West Fjords and the Buna River. Not far from that spot, you’ll stop to admire a beautiful stepped waterfall in Tunguskogur and take an opportunity to taste the freshest, clearest mountain water you may ever have encountered. Back in Isafjordur, you’ll stop in at the Maritime and Folk Museum, which calls one of the town’s oldest and best-preserved houses its home. The museum presents an excellent collection of artifacts related to the region’s maritime history – as well as a sizable accordion collection. Gotta have something to do during those long winters.

Enjoy an enlightening tour of Naples by visiting Spaccanapoli, the street that divides the city, and by savoring folded pizza, a classic Neapolitan treat.

After departing from the pier, you will begin a panoramic drive around Naples, taking in the views from locales such as Posillipo Hill in one of the city’s most affluent areas. Along the way, you will pass the imposing Castle Nuovo.

While parts of it date to the 13th century, it is still known as the new castle to distinguish it from the famed Egg Castle, which began as a 1st-century Roman villa. Castle Nuovo’s five towers make it one of Naples’ most recognizable landmarks. You will also see the Egg Castle, which holds a commanding position on the sea.

In time, you will reach Spaccanapoli, a long street whose name means “Naples splitter,” a reference to it seeming to divide the city in two. Here, you will visit the Jesuit church Gesú Nuovo and the Church of Santa Chiara, which was founded in 1310 and features an austere Provencal-Gothic style. Much of Santa Chiara had to be rebuilt after World War II.

For an even more authentic glimpse into daily life, you will walk through the narrow streets of Old Town, which UNESCO has declared a Cultural Heritage site. As you will discover, there is no better setting to eat portafoglio or folded pizza, as the dish was invented in Naples. A cup of fresh espresso at a nearby café will top off the experience.

Drive off road through the wilds of Bonaire in a 4x4 vehicle, stopping on occasion at natural wonders and enlightening points of interest.

Your adventure will begin in earnest at the Washington-Slagbaai National Park by browsing the visitor center museum. There you will learn about Bonaire’s flora and fauna as preparation for racing into the countryside, which is known locally as the kunuku. Chances are, you will pass towering cacti, mesquite and wind-blown watapana trees on your way to Lac Bay on the island’s eastern shore.

After pausing to take in the natural beauty and perhaps see a wild donkey or two, you will head to Bonaire’s first lighthouse, a Doric column of sorts built in 1837. You will also stop at a collection of huts for the African slaves that once cultivated maize and worked the salt pans. Bonaire still produces vast quantities of salt and you will see towering mountains of it by the sea.

Discover the charms of two inland villages, one a medieval gem with fine shopping, the other featuring a rare olive mill. Unlike other villages in Provence, Valbonne was designed on a Roman grid plan, so the streets are straight and perpendicular rather than winding. After a guided walking tour through the leafy plazas, you will enjoy free time in Valbonne. You might be surprised by how cosmopolitan it is, especially with regard to shopping and dining. You will then drive a bit farther inland to Opio, a smaller village surrounded by olive groves and pine trees. Opio has one of the area’s few remaining olive mills, which has been operating since the 15th century. Now powered by electricity rather than water, the mill still presses fresh oil from locally gathered olives as it has for centuries. After hearing about the mill’s history, you will sample some the olives and freshly pressed oil with a glass of wine.

    HIGHLIGHTS:
    • Enjoy a leisurely and immensely picturesque drive inland to two villages in Provence.
    • Spend free time in medieval Valbonne, where you may shop in its sophisticated boutiques.
    • Sample olives, freshly pressed olive oil and a glass of wine at a 15th-century olive mill.
