OVERVIEW
Hop aboard the vintage White Pass & Yukon Route Railway for an immensely picturesque train ride high into the mountains, following a path blasted out of the rocks in 1898, during the height of the Klondike Gold Rush. As soon as the narrow-gauge train begins its ascent, you will understand why the beloved WP&YR is known as “The Scenic Railway of the World.” The train will climb almost 3,000 feet in just 20 miles and present one breathtaking view after another, from thundering Bridal Veil Falls to the rugged peaks at Inspiration Point. You will also pass over the soaring bridge that spans precipitous Dead Horse Gulch, named for pack animals loaded with prospecting gear that fell to the bottom of the gorge. Your journey begins with an entertaining historic tour through downtown Skagway, and along nine miles of stunning coastline to our Adventure Camp in Dyea. Kick off your visit with a “Musher Talk.” In the Musher Talk, we will share fascinating information about this extreme Alaskan state sport and welcome any additional questions you may have. Of course, we make sure you have plenty of time to meet some of the actual athletes who do these amazing things, our sled dogs! Not to worry—we have litters of puppies too that are ready for cuddles and kisses. Human socialization is essential to their development and racing success. After that, take a chance to pan for gold in our riverside sluice! Once your guide shows you the art of gold panning, you can test your luck to see what you can find while learning about the history of the gold rush that took off from this area. Then you will have time to take a short self-guided nature hike next to a beautiful waterfall and dense Alaskan forest or browse the gift shop and relax in our saloon with a deck overlooking the picturesque stream. All of this in a spectacular Alaskan setting! This is a tour full of Alaskan adventure, history, and awe-inspiring wilderness.

It is off to the historic and magnificent White Pass Train adventure. From an antique parlor car, enjoy the incredible scenery while your tour guide shares the stories and history of the Klondike Gold Rush. Upon reaching Fraser, British Columbia board your motorcoach and take a short trip to the Yukon Suspension Bridge. Then it’s time to experience the country that you heard about! Breathe pristine air, taste wild berries in season, hear the roar of raging white water and thrill to the sensations of a swaying walkway over 60 feet above the rapids. There are Tagish First Nation Staff and Elders to answer questions about the site. A variety of First Nations art pieces and crafts are available for purchase, as well. After your experience at the Yukon Suspension Bridge, you’ll continue on your motorcoach for the journey down the west side of the White Pass Canyon. Listen as your driver/guide entertains you with stories of the stampeders who trekked through the pass in search of gold. You’ll see picturesque points such as Tormented Valley and Pitchfork Falls as you head back to your ship.

Soar through the treetops of a centuries-old rainforest and over glacially fed waterfalls on a series of exhilarating ziplines. You will ride to the Grizzly Falls zipline camp in an all-terrain Mercedes Unimog, a 4x4 vehicle made for off-road adventure. Then, after an orientation that will help you maximize the experience, the real thrills begin. After climbing the first zipline platform and getting harnessed in, you will step off into thin air. Gravity will pull you through the forest canopy and so close to the waterfalls that you can feel their rising mist. The ziplines will carry you downhill at an adrenaline-pumping, heart-racing speed of up to 45 miles per hour, or if you would prefer to take it a bit slower, just use the brake system. Either way, it will be a thrill. Suspension bridges link several of the zipline platforms, providing you will excellent photo opportunities and time to catch your breath.

Visit a musher’s camp and ride a wheeled sled that Alaskan huskies will effortlessly pull through the Alaskan wilds. The camp lies in Dyea, a gold rush boomtown that is now somewhat of a ghost town. The last leg of the journey there will be in an all-terrain Mercedes Unimog made to negotiate the off-road terrain. After learning a bit about competitive mushing in events such as the famed Iditarod, you will hop onto a custom-designed wheeled sled behind a team of powerful dogs. They will then whisk you down a zigzagging, one-mile trail in the Tongass National Forest. The sheer strength and stamina of the dogs will be apparent from the get-go. Back in camp, the mushers will elaborate on their dog-sledding strategies, trace the history of the sport and demonstrate how the dogs and mushers train. Afterwards, you can interact with some of the puppies.

After pausing for a hearty lunch at Wild Adventure Yukon, you can stretch your legs by browsing a wildlife museum, a sled dog musher’s village and the world’s smallest desert. You will also have time to explore pristine Lake Bennett and the abandoned town of Fraser before boarding the White Pass & Yukon Route railway, the aptly named “Scenic Railway of the World.” On the descent through the mountains, you will pass natural wonders that include Bridal Veil Falls, Inspiration Point and Dead Horse Gulch.

This excursion combines a trip over the Klondike Highway with a ride on the White Pass & Yukon Railroad, leaving you time for further exploration during your visit to Skagway. This tour is presented in multiple foreign languages simultaneously. Your experience begins onboard a comfortable mini-bus whose large picture windows afford spectacular views as you travel through Skagway and north along the Klondike Highway up through the West White Pass in the St. Elias Range. This is the highest coastal range in the world, and one of North America's most scenic mountain roads. Your guide will tell a century’s worth of White Pass stories, and there are plenty of landmarks along the way including Dead Horse Trail, the old Brackett Wagon Road, Pitchfork Falls and Moore Bridge. Photo opportunities of numerous glaciers and peaks abound. Upon arrival at Fraser, British Columbia, you’ll board a vintage narrow-gauge railcar for your trip aboard the world-famous White Pass & Yukon Railroad.
