Norwegian Prima's Godparent Revealed

A first-in-class ship deserves a first-in-class godparent. Which is why we're delighted to announce Norwegian Prima's godparent is Katy Perry.

Katy Perry is no stranger to firsts. As a world-famous pop icon, "American Idol" judge, first female artist to surpass three billion views for her videos “Roar” and "Dark Horse," and first-ever Capitol Records recording artist to join the elite RIAA 100 Million Certified Songs club, innovation is woven into Katy’s DNA. It was a natural fit to ask her to serve as the godmother to our record-breaking and innovative newest ship, Norwegian Prima, the first of six vessels in the Prima Class.

As our most in-demand cruise ship ever launched, Norwegian Prima is truly the first of its kind. Sailing August 2022, the ship will offer world-class service, thoughtful design, unforgettable itineraries, and an unrivaled guest experience.

On board, escape to Ocean Boulevard, which features multiple infinity pools and Oceanwalk glass bridges -- breathtaking ocean and destination views abound. For an exquisite design experience, make your way to The Haven, our grandest and most luxurious accommodations onboard. Think of it as your own ship within the ship. Designed by the master architects at Piero Lissoni, the ship’s revamped luxurious centralized suite complex, The Haven by Norwegian will feature 107 staterooms spanning eight decks with a stunning new infinity pool overlooking the ship's wake and a new outdoor spa with a glass-walled sauna and cold room.

And though elevated culinary experiences are not a first for Norwegian, Norwegian Prima will offer the first sustainably focused lounge for the fleet, The Metropolitan, and an ultra-upscale Mediterranean seafood specialty restaurant, Palomar. Just what, exactly, does being a cruise ship godmother entail? Dating back centuries, the nautical tradition of appointing a ship's godmother includes officiating a ceremonial breaking of a champagne bottle on the ship's bow to bid the vessel and its passengers good fortune on their travels.

As godmother, Katy will also fulfill the longstanding maritime tradition of blessing and officially naming Norwegian Prima, as well as perform during the christening ceremony before the ship sets sail on her inaugural voyages from Reykjavík, Iceland.

The ceremony in Reykjavík, Iceland will take place on August 27, 2022, where Norwegian Prima will become the first ship to ever be christened at the Icelandic capital city.
