Cu Chi Tunnels
hrs Estimate Duration
A scenic 3 hour journey through the countryside, with glimpses of rural life in today's Vietnam, brings you to the Cu Chi Tunnels. Discover the ingenuity and resilience of the Vietnamese people during an exploration of this fascinating underground complex built by the Viet Cong. Nicknamed "underground village", this is a labyrinth of interlaced tunnels of more than 250km (155 miles) in length that used to be a guerrilla stronghold during the last Vietnam War. They included storerooms, smokeless kitchens, sleeping quarters, hospitals and schools. Sixteen thousand people lived in the tunnels during the day, at least 20 percent of them women.
On arrival at Cu Chi, you’ll see a short video presentation explaining the underground network. Although the tunnels are narrow for most Westerners, most of the complex has been opened and ventilated, and a short section has been widened to allow visitors to share the experience.
After visiting the tunnels, stop at local restaurant where you’ll be served a light lunch before you head back to the ship.
