OVERVIEW

Explore iconic attractions in and around Cairo and come away with a deeper understanding of Egypt’s illustrious past. While browsing the Grand Egyptian Museum, you will see exhibits from prehistoric times through the Roman periods, although most of the artifacts focus on the era of the pharaohs. The collection includes sarcophagi and the treasures of King Tut, which will provide an engaging introduction to the timeless wonders awaiting on the Giza Plateau. There, you will behold the Great Pyramids and spend free time at the base of the Chephren or Mykerinos pyramid. As you will discover, the nearby Great Sphinx is equally breathtaking. The scale of this half-human, half-lion monument is staggering and the details of its construction are still unknown. The ancient Egyptians also developed papyrus as the first writing material and you will see how at a papyrus-making demonstration. Time to shop at a bustling bazaar will offer a glimpse into modern life.

Note: This tour includes approximately four hours of moderate to strenuous walking and standing over a combination of paved surfaces, museum floors with stairs, and sandy, uneven terrain at the Giza Plateau. The area around the pyramids can be dusty, and guests should be prepared for extended periods outdoors. This tour is not available to guests who utilize a wheelchair and may not be suitable for those with mobility concerns, who are cautioned to carefully evaluate their personal level of stamina and ability. Visit inside a Pyramid is not part of the tour as it requires an additional fee. Not recommended for people suffering from claustrophobia or having back and/or knee problems. The corridor is dark and low and at most of the time visitors must stop or bend their knees while they walk. The main chamber is totally empty. Very humid and dark inside. Site order and timing may vary due to traffic conditions, security requirements, or the ship’s sailing schedule, and in some cases shopping time or the papyrus institute visit may be shortened or omitted. Guests entering Egyptian ports are required by local authorities to carry their passports while ashore.
