Your first stop will be a visit to Saxman Native Village. For generations, Tlingit villages have maintained a tradition of welcoming visitors in regal style In this Native community, tribal elders and others have worked hard to pass on many of the traditions that have long defined their culture. A short video program will introduce you to their culture and history, then enter the Beaver Clan House where you'll be welcomed by song and dance. Visitors are encouraged to participate in the final dance before moving onto the Saxman Totem Park, one of the largest gatherings of totem poles in the world.


    The next stop is the Village Carving Center where world famous carvers work and pass on their skills to eager apprentices. Visit the Village Store to purchase some of the finest Native Alaska art available. As you fly 20 inches over water, your tour guide will describe the operations of this “air cushion” vehicle and what makes a hovercraft eco-friendly. The pilot will take you over gentle waves and along the jagged shoreline before flying your craft from the water to the beach.


    Make sure to have your cameras ready as the hovercraft transitions from sea to land. Pulling up onto the shore will be the ultimate display of what makes a hovercraft such a unique vessel.     Live the thrill of gliding through the top of a rich rain forest canopy along a series of eight zip-lines with three aerial bridges suspended between tall spruce, hemlock and cedar trees, bordering the magnificent Tongass National Forest. This major rain forest reserve embraces one of Alaska's richest salmon spawning streams and a pristine intertidal estuary. Abundant wildlife habitat here includes a high concentration of bald eagles, black bear and a variety of other species.


    At Herring Cove, an all-terrain custom 4x4 Unimog will transport you up a steep rain forest hillside to the canopy chalet. Professionally trained guides will outfit you with state-of-the-art safety equipment and provide a detailed orientation before you mount the first platform.


    Your rain forest canopy challenge features a 'flight' over eight zip-lines. Your guide will progressively ease you into the forest canopy along cables ranging from a short 100 feet to the 750-foot, pulse-pounding Ben's Revenge. Eagles and bears are often seen from the platforms. Cross three hanging bridges offering breathtaking views of the virgin forest below.


    Time permitting, explore the totem park and a historic sawmill, see an eagle up close at the Alaska Raptor Center and watch a blacksmith at work. Stop by the General Store to see photos taken during your zip-line experience and to shop for mementos of your Alaska adventure.


    Your excursion concludes with a scenic drive back to the ship.

    Experience an exhilarating eco-rainforest adventure featuring 7 zip lines, 10 tree platforms, and two rappelling elements. Your adventure begins with an 8-mile coastal drive from Ketchikan to the Herring Cove rainforest reserve. Enjoy the ride up the steep hillside in a 4x4 Unimog to the outfitting shelter. After being outfitted in safety equipment, you'll hike uphill and learn the basics of zip lining before venturing onto the system of dual cable zip lines. Soon you’ll be flying from tree to tree and soaking in the forest views on the way. After soaring across the canopy and rappelling to the forest floor you will reboard the Unimog and return to base camp where you'll receive a medal in recognition of your achievement. Time permitting you are invited to tour the historic Fleenor Sawmill, observe a Master Native Totem Carver at work before exploring a garden of completed totem poles and visit the Alaska Raptor Center's Ketchikan exhibit to see their amazing birds of prey up close. The gently sloped, historic trail weaves through the Tongass National Forest under the cover of towering, old growth spruce and hemlock. The three-mile-long trail includes a series of optional, fun features accessible for riders of all abilities and skill levels. Next, gather by a warm campfire at our rustic creekside camp to enjoy a hearty Alaskan-style snack that includes clam chowder & smoked salmon.


    After your snack, embark on a guided nature walk and discover the unique history and natural beauty of Southeast Alaska. The walk will highlight the flora and fauna of the rainforest, including a carnivorous plant called the Sundew, which uses tentacles with an adhesive “dew” toensnare small insects.     Board your motorcoach for a scenic 25 minute drive to Knudson Cove, a private waterfront estate in the Tongass National Forest. Upon arrival, guides will instruct and outfit you with safety equipment in an open air forest pavilion. Your adventure begins as you ascend into the trees and gravity pulls you along the ziplines. Nestled on a platform in the park, keep an eye out for eagles and ocean views.


    You can take an optional challenge route that leads you across swinging logs and rope bridges. Feel the speed and acceleration of the ocean zip, where you'll land above the water on a freestanding platform. Then take the final zip to the taproom deck where you can have a free Alaskan brewed beer if you’re 21 or older.


    If you choose to skip the taproom, take the UTV up the hill to the 50 foot climbing tower where guides will show you techniques to climb to the top and safely auto belay to the ground. For those that are less adventurous, guides can assist you in skipping elements if you choose. You’ll complete five to nine ziplines, with time to shop for souvenirs before returning to the pier.

    A rainforest walk with a twist, your adventure starts aboard a motorized inflatable Seahawk, for the short but exciting cruise along the coast of Clover Passage. Along the way, you may have the opportunity to observe whales, Steller sea lions, harbor seals, bald eagles and migrating seabirds. Landing at a secluded beach, you’ll follow your guide through the ancient Tongass National Forest, home to a diverse cross section of animals including bears, eagles, wolves and trumpeter swans.


    You’ll see Western Red Cedars and Alaskan Yellow Cedars that early Natives depended on for spiritual enrichment, shelter and transportation. The well-maintained trail is mostly boardwalk and about one mile in length. You'll also enjoy an interactive beach life interpretation by your naturalist guide. After hiking the historic route, enjoy an Alaskan-style snack, before returning to Ketchikan.

    Your tour begins with a scenic coastal drive from Ketchikan to a private 40- acre reserve located in picturesque Herring Cove. On arrival you'll be greeted by your guide, who will lead you on about a mile-long walk among the towering trees and curious world of the local flora and fauna. Next, you will visit the Alaska Raptor Center exhibit where you will see some of Alaska’s most beautiful and majestic birds of prey, including a Bald Eagle.


    Next, take a peek into the Alaskan Native culture while exploring a Tsimshian totem park and the carving studio where the totems were sculpted by one of Alaska’s Master carvers. Our small groups allow for a personalized experience giving you plenty of one on one time with your photography guide. Guides will help with tripod set-up, suggest camera settings, share special angles, point out wildlife and natural phenomenon, advise on changing light conditions, and more. Our professional guides will share with you their wealth of experience photographing landscapes and wildlife all over the world.


    Your tour includes time to explore the courtyard and totem park, a historic sawmill, and a working blacksmith. Visit the General Store to shop for your Alaskan souvenirs.

    Wildlife often visit the area in search of food. Make sure to volunteer to help pull crab pots, see them up close, and learn about their anatomy and life cycle before returning them to the ocean.     Experience the 'Salmon Capital of the World' on a sightseeing cruise featuring wildlife viewing and a taste of locally caught Alaska seafood delicacies at a historic cannery. Cruise aboard an Alaskan built vessel exploring the rugged coastline of the Tongass Narrows and glacier-carved George Inlet. An onboard Naturalist will share local knowledge and point out places of interest and wildlife. As wildlife is sighted, your experienced Captain will maneuver the vessel to provide the best possible views.


    The expedition includes a visit to Walden Rocks, a favorite seal haul-out and prominent gathering place for bald eagles and marine birds. Whales, sea lions, and porpoises are also frequently sighted in this area.


    At the historic Libby Cannery, situated in a remote rainforest setting, you will taste your way through Alaska's robust commercial fishing industry. The experience begins with a hearty bowl of salmon chowder and introduction to this once bustling maritime center. Then, you will have the opportunity to meander through the well-preserved cannery, visiting displays that highlight Southeast Alaska's various fisheries including; trolling, purse seining, long-lining, and crabbing. Each interactive display offers a taste of a delicacy related to the given industry. Locally caught offerings include salmon - smoked onsite, salmon roe, halibut, oysters, and crab served two ways. While at the Cannery, be sure to check out the historic Tsirku canning line - the only functioning equipment of its kind in the world.


    A beautiful rainforest trail will lead to your deluxe motor coach for a narrated trip back to Ketchikan. The scenic drive provides an opportunity to glimpse the world's largest collection of totem poles at Saxman Native Village, and view historic Creek Street - a colorful row of charming homes and shops built on pilings over Ketchikan Creek.
