A unique opportunity to experience what the Caribbean is known best for, rum and savory food in our Backyard rum shop.

You will be met on the pier and escorted to your awaiting air-conditioned transportation. Board your taxi and be driven 10 minutes to a lovely Caribbean rum shack in St John’s on Sir Vivian Richards Street, the very street where Antigua’s favorite son was born.

You will be met by one of Antigua’s most respected husband and wife team who own and run the rum shack. They will welcome you with a real Antiguan hospitality. Then the fun and education begins.

A journey and history of how Antiguan and Caribbean rums are made will be explained with stories, anecdotes, and an opportunity to taste and provide your feedback on up to 3 different Antiguan rums. These will be complemented with water to cleanse your pallet.

The rums will be complimented with a choice of numerous delicious Antiguan and Caribbean seasonal specialties! The local recipes will be shared with those who wish to know chef’s secrets!

There is a saying, ‘When in Rome do as the Romans do’. This is a unique and exclusive opportunity to do what the Antiguans do in Antigua, drink and savor the taste of rum whilst enjoying delicious freshly prepared hot savory finger foods!

Of course there will be an opportunity to purchase your favorite bottle of rum to take home with you. Your air-conditioned transportation will then take you back to the pier and your awaiting ship.

    Photographic Tour of Antigua

An amazing tour with 4 stops with a professional photographer, Jason Pickering.

Explore Antigua’s colorful past and present on a guided tour that travels from the island’s quaint northern capital, St John’s, through the heart of the island, Antigua’s tropical countryside, everyday picturesque village life and calm, rolling hills to include stops Fort James, twin-sugar mills at Betty’s Hope Sugar Plantation, Devil’s Bridge and the white sand beach at Long Bay.

Board your air-conditioned transportation with your professional photographer, who will assist you on how to use and get the best from their camera, whether it be a compact or DSLR camera. Various techniques will be taught while having the opportunity to visit and take photographs at some of Antigua’s historic landmarks.

First stop is a 10 minute drive to Fort James, built in 1739. The Fort offers an opportunity to step back in time and enjoy fabulous views of St John’s Harbour and photographic opportunities of the harbor, your ship and the lovely Antiguan coastline.

Then it’s off to Betty's Hope Sugar Plantation which was the first large sugar plantation on Antigua, built in 1674. It’s success led to the island's rapid development of large-scale sugar production. The site's importance in Antiguan history has prompted the government to begin developing it as an open air museum. The two restored sugar mill examples at Betty's Hope provide a dramatic sense of the way these mills must have dominated the island during the hundreds of years that sugar production was the dominant industry. There are also 4 locomotives used to transport the sugar cane across Antigua.

Your tour continues to Devil’s Bridge where you will view the natural bridge at the head of Indian Creek with blow-holes and spouting surf. Legend says that if you throw two eggs into the water to boil, the devil (who is said to be down there) would keep one and return the other!

Next is a stop at Long Bay Beach where you can take a stroll along the beach and experience one of Antigua’s 365 beaches! Your waiting bus then takes you through Antigua’s tropical countryside, everyday picturesque village life and calm, rolling hills en route back north through Antiguan villages to St John’s and your awaiting ship.

    Walking Tour of St. John's

    St. John's, Antigua

    Duration 2 1/2 hrs

Although some original structures have suffered the ravages of hurricanes, earthquakes and fire, enough exist today to give you a true sense of history and flavour of this beautiful and proud city. more...

St. John's City has been praised for its original grid layout, which can be seen on the original map drawing in the Museum, dated MDCCLXXXVIII (1788). Although some original structures have suffered the ravages of hurricanes, earthquakes and fire, enough exist today to give you a true sense of history and flavour of this beautiful and proud city.

Gently sloping to the sea, the City gives a strong sense of old world charm and elegance which lingers in the architecture: Georgian, Romantic, Victorian, Vernacular and International, all bearing special features such as verandahs, hurricane shutters, lattice work, fretwork and Demerara windows to name a few.

With your provided bottle of water, you start your walk from the pier, listening to your Guide through the Whisper Radio System for ease and clarity, so you miss nothing, even for those with hearing aids as we have special adaptors! Passing through Historical Redcliffe Quay and 19th C buildings, bring you to vibrant Market Street, leading you to your first stop, the Fish Market. A fascinating, picturesque seafront with tiny, colourful fishing boats tied up, and the huge, luxurious cruise ships as a dramatic backdrop.

The tour continues, encompassing all the historical buildings, the renowned Methodist Church building, The Cenotaph, the Cathedral grounds (the main building is under renovation), other churches, historic streets, monuments, private residences and shops still boasting any one of the West Indian Vernacular styles of architecture. You will truly be captivated by the colorful wooden buildings and amazed that so many of today’s stores, restaurants and outlets in St. John’s, are carefully refurbished to retain their original features, and have so much absorbing history.

Your final stop is at the Museum of Antigua & Barbuda (C.1750), where you can browse the circuitous ground floor route, with its many exhibits, samples and displays, some interactive, from the very beginning of life on Antigua to the present day. This is the only tour available to encompass the true history and wonders of this thankfully still very local, quaint and unspoilt city. The tour will end very near to the pier, other tours, duty free shopping, taxis, and your ship.

Capture the moment by taking the perfect selfie in St John’s, the charming capital city of Antigua. Your experience will start at Fort James. This fort was built to guard St. John's harbour and is one of the many forts built by the British in the 18th century. Here, you’ll see a lot history and views of the beach. We will admire St John’s Cathedral, also known as the St. John the Divine, which is dominated by twin towers at the west end and provides a distinct baroque flavor. The perfect place for a good selfie!

Continue to Bettys Hope which was a sugarcane plantation in Antigua, established in 1650, shortly after the island had become an English colony. Now, it is one of the most beautiful and interesting landmarks in the island.

Devil’s Bridge will be the next place to take a great selfie. For hundreds of thousands of years, the Atlantic’s waves have crashed into the east coast of Antigua creating a natural arch, or bridge. Finally, visit one of the most beautiful beaches in Antigua, Long Bay Beach and stroll by the shore for an easygoing beach experience or swim in the calm blue waters of the Caribbean Sea

Discover Antigua’s most epic spots to snap your selfies while enjoying and learning about its history and culture. Selfie stops include:

Once across the bridge, there is a 12 zip lines journey through the forest begins as you trail to the start aerial zips, crisscrossing the gorge. There are zip lines of 52 feet to 328 feet in length. Enjoy visiting with a local Antiguan in their ancestral home, then visit a pineapple farm and later, relax and enjoy lunch on a private white sand beach.

Traveling from the pier, you will pass through one interesting village after another as you make your way to a private home with a wonderful history. As you approach the property, you'll begin to hear about the land and the story behind it. Before long, you'll find yourself on top of a panoramic vista that overlooks a valley dotted with a landscape of grazing cows and sheep.

While the home may look modest from the exterior, you'll be astounded once inside. Artifacts from the original settlers who bought the land in the 16th century surround you. The owner, who is also a direct descendant of the original family, will graciously walk you through the areas of her home that are open to you and will answer questions about her prized collections. Endemic trees and medicinal herbs are grown in the backyard and not only will your guide provide knowledge on the healing powers of these plants, but you will also enjoy a freshly brewed cup of herbal tea. There is no doubt that people of every age will be entranced here.

After your visit, you’ll re-board your transportation and head to a local Pineapple Farm where you will get to see the production of this important crop. During your visit, you have the opportunity to observe the fruit in all of its stages of growth. Perhaps take the chance to enjoy it later on during your beach stop. But before that, we’ll head to Fryes Estate where you can see two of the island's oldest Sugar Mills, although now in ruins, the setting remains immensely picturesque.

The day can’t end without being reminded you’re on a Caribbean island and therefore, your final stop will be at a beautiful beachfront setting. Whether you prefer to lounge on a chair in the shade of an umbrella and gaze at the azure blue water or jump into it, you'll love this refreshing time on a private beach of white sand. Families will surely enjoy the beach games or water sports activities while building up hearty appetites. Luckily, your free time on the beach is followed by a terrific and typical West Indian lunch. The food is tantalizing and the staff gracious and welcoming as you dine while enjoying the music of steel pans and a lovely local artist reciting poetry. No doubt, it will be with some reluctance when it’s time to leave and return to the pier.
