Helicopter Flightseeing & Taste of Tlingit Cuisine
Stunden Geschätzte Dauer
Fly over the gorgeous Alaskan wilderness in a helicopter before landing at a secluded beach to learn about the indigenous Tlingit tribe and sample their traditional cuisine.
After departing from the pier, you will enjoy a scenic drive through Hoonah, the largest Tlingit community in Alaska. A brief orientation at a nearby heli-pad follows, after which you will fly off in a helicopter, taking in the magnificent scenery of dense woodlands, majestic mountains and pristine waterways dotted with islands.
It is all part of the Tongass National Forest, the nation’s largest national forest and the world’s largest temperate rainforest. Little has changed in the landscape since the Tlingit tribe first settled here centuries ago. President Theodore Roosevelt legally protected that land by designating the forest as a preserve in the early 1900s.
In time, the helicopter will touch down on a secluded beach, where you will learn about the founding Tlingits. While you will discover much about their history and how they migrated here, most of your cultural immersion will revolve around traditional Tlingit cuisine.
Living off the land is a way of life among the tribe. As the locals say, “When the tide is out, the table is set.” Accordingly, you will sample delicacies from the sea such as salmon, smoked and prepared using methods that generations upon generations have handed down. You may also learn how the Tlingits preserve their fish by kippering.
