Caves of Antiparos

Explore the geological wonders in the Cave of Antiparos as a prelude to a delightful tour of the only village on Antiparos Island. A short but scenic ferry ride will bring you to the island, where you will descend a staircase into the depths of the cave. You will see an abundance of eerily illuminated stalagmites and stalactites, including what is supposedly the oldest stalactite in Europe. Although artifacts from the Stone Age have been found in the cave, it wasn’t until the 17th century that the site became popular among tourists. Even Greece’s King Otto and Queen Amalia visited in the mid-19th century, and you can still see his signature in the deepest part of the cave. In the beautifully whitewashed village nearby, you will enjoy a leisurely stroll through the enchanting streets and a bit of free time to explore further. The inviting, one-of-a-kind shops are filled with local merchandise.
