The scenery passed during your drive from Akureyri or Husavik is remarkably unspoiled, a landscape of lava and moss with mountains always lurking on the horizon. Your destination is Earth Lagoon, a stunning open-air natural pool that offers the chance to soak in a pool of soothing, warm water drawn from deep within the earth. This delicious liquid contains a blend of minerals, silicates and geothermal microorganisms that are beneficial to both skin and spirit – and known to imbue bathers with a profound sense of well-being. This environmentally conscious spa just about 65 miles south of the Arctic Circle, in a designated nature preserve famous for its magnificent and curious ecosystem – and bathing in geothermal pools in the region has been a cherished tradition since the Vikings first founded Iceland.
