Enjoy a scenic drive through Provence before reaching the charming medieval town of Aix. This was the capital of the Provence region and its attractions are many. Embark on a walking tour of the Cours Mirabeau. This wide avenue is shaded by trees and was built in the 1600s on the site of the city’s medieval ramparts; its verdant tunnel of foliage protects pedestrians from the heat of the Provencal sun. The aristocratic facades of the old hotels line the Cours and their wrought iron balconies and finely carved doorways invite the visitor to explore. One of the nicest fountains you'll see is certainly the natural hot water fountain covered with moss, dating from 1734.

Need to Know:

Note: Note the different architectural styles of Saint Sauveur Cathedral with a Romanesque nave, a Merovingian baptistery and a Gothic section. These various styles date between the 5th and 17th centuries. Whatever your interest is, the ambiance of Aix en Provence makes for an enjoyable excursion. Enjoy some free time before rejoining your coach for the drive back to Marseille. Note: Tour involves extensive walking on level ground. Not recommended for guests who are wheelchair confined. There are very few public restrooms in Aix, guests can use the facilities in bars and restaurants as long as drinks or food are purchased.
