Experience a traditional Malaysian handicraft cultural complex and a rubber plantation to learn how the tree sap is harvested on your overview journey of Langkawi. Drive across the rugged mountainous archipelago of rainforests, lakes and waterfalls to the Budaya Craft Cultural Complex. Celebrating Malaysia’s heritage, the complex is a showcase of various handicrafts found throughout Malaysia. While browsing the exhibits, you may find batik fabrics, rattan baskets and delicate bamboo carvings. Ethnic tribes have created many of the woven and beaded handicrafts using time-honored designs. You’ll visit a rubber plantation to see how the tree sap is harvested, and how the tree bark is grooved at an angle, to create products such as latex gloves, tires and paint.
Pass by numerous paddy fields on your return trip where buffalo may be cooling off in the muddy water. The archipelago’s most recognized animal is the eagle, as the name Langwaki derives from the Malay word for eagle. You’ll see a massive sculpture of the bird about to take flight in Eagle Square before returning to the pier.
