Explore two of the world's most historical cities as you step back in time with visits to Jerusalem and Bethlehem.

Your tour begins with a beautiful scenic drive from Haifa into the Judean Hills. As you ascend into these hauntingly stark hills, your coach will be traveling along the same route used for centuries to reach Jerusalem. The capital of Israel, Jerusalem is famous for its timeless beauty and was once considered the center of the world. As you navigate your way through this amazing city, you will pass some of Israel's most notable landmarks, such as the Hebrew University, home to 2005 Nobel Prize winner Professor Emeritus Robert J. Aumann, the Israel Museum, the Shrine of the Book, the Knesset (Israel's Parliament) and the State Supreme High Court. After an interesting overview of the city, you'll proceed toward the Mount of Olives where time will be allowed to take photos from this highly favorable vantage point that provides an unparalleled and breathtaking panorama of the walled Old City. Near the base of the Mount, you will find the picturesque Gardens of Gethsemane, site of an ancient olive oil press yard that is surrounded by 1,000-year-old trees. Here you can also see the impressive Church of All Nations.

Following an unforgettable morning, you will be treated to a relaxing lunch at a local hotel before it's time to continue your exploration of this fascinating destination with a walking tour of the historical Old City. Entering via the Jaffa Gate, your walk will take you past some of the most sacred sites in religious history. As you make your way along a route that flanks the colorful bazaar, you'll observe the Christian Quarter, which rests beside a part of the famous Via Dolorosa, believed by many to be the route Jesus followed as he carried his cross to Calvary. Amongst the sites you will view is the golden-topped Dome of the Rock. With its stunning blue and gold ceramic tiles, this amazing shrine is considered the third holiest site in Islam. You will also view the famous Western (Wailing) Wall, the holiest site in the Jewish world because it is believed to have been closest to where the Holy Ark once stood. A visit to the Church of the Holy Sepulcher is also included. Perched on the hill known as Golgotha, the Church marks the site of Jesus' crucifixion, burial and resurrection.

Rejoining your coach, you'll leave the city behind and make your way through the Judean Hills to the edge of the desert, where the legendary town of Bethlehem is found. Your time here includes a visit to Manger Square and the renowned Church of the Nativity. This extraordinary church is built over a grotto that is believed to be the location of Jesus' birth. Due to time constraints and very long lines to enter the actual grotto, doing so is usually not a possibility. After what will no doubt be a highly memorable visit, you'll re-board your coach and enjoy a leisurely drive back to the ship.

Boarding your coach at the pier, you'll enjoy a picturesque drive from Haifa to the top of Mount Carmel. From this advantageous view point, you'll be treated to spectacular panoramic views of Haifa and its glistening bay. After your photo stop, it's on to Nazareth - the place where Jesus spent his early years.

Upon arrival in this fascinating town filled with rich historical significance, you'll have the opportunity to explore the amazing Basilica of the Annunciation, one of Christendom's most revered shrines and the largest church in the Middle East. The Basilica is built on the same site where the Archangel Gabriel revealed to Mary that she would be the mother of the Messiah. Amongst the mesmerizing sites you'll see here is the altar, which incorporates a portion of the grotto where Mary had lived. A remarkable 170-foot- high cupola that rises high above the upper church adds to the Basilica's grandeur and allows the interior to be illuminated with natural light. You will also find a significant collection of magnificent mosaics, ceramic reliefs and other marvelous works of art from around the world adorning the vast interior.

Re-boarding your coach, you'll travel through Cana, the place where Jesus performed his first miracle of turning water into wine and then head off along the panoramic seashore to the Yardenit baptismal sight where the River Jordan separates from the Sea of Galilee. In this naturally scenic and symbolic setting, pilgrims from around the world come to perform baptismal ceremonies. On your relaxing ride back to the pier in Haifa, you'll view Mount Tabor, the traditional site of the Transfiguration where Jesus appeared to his disciples in radiant light while speaking with Moses and Elijah.

Discover some of Israel’s most notable landmarks, walk through the historical section of Jerusalem and make a visit to Yad Vashem, a living memorial of the Holocaust.

This unforgettable tour offers an excellent opportunity to experience some of mankind's most impressive and moving sights. Following the ancient route leading from Jaffa to Jerusalem, your coach will ascend into the stark, yet strikingly beautiful Judean Hills. As you wind your way through the hills, you will pass the Castle fortification before arriving at the remarkable Yad Vashem, the Holocaust Martyrs' and Heroes' Remembrance Authority. The museum, which was opened in 2005, is dedicated to documenting the history of the Jewish people during the Holocaust period, emphasizing each victim's experience through original artifacts, survivor testimonies and personal possessions. This unique perspective is presented in a sprawling complex of tree-studded walkways that lead to museums, exhibits, archives, monuments, sculptures and memorials.

Leaving Yad Vashem, you'll navigate your way into Jerusalem, viewing some of Israel's most notable landmarks, such as the Hebrew University, home to 2005 Nobel Prize winner Professor Emeritus Robert J. Aumann, the Israel Museum, the Shrine of the Book, the Knesset (Israel's Parliament) and the State Supreme High Court before stopping for lunch at a local hotel.

Your afternoon begins with a walking tour of the old city. Entering via the Zion Gate, scene of some of the fiercest fighting in Jerusalem during the siege of 1948, your walk will take you past some of the most sacred sites in religious history. As you make your way through the Jewish Quarter of the Old City, you'll see the Cardo, Jerusalem's main thoroughfare during the Roman and Byzantine eras. You will also see the remains of the Hurva Synagogue. Burned by angry creditors in 1720, it was rebuilt in 1856, only to be destroyed again during the 1948 conflict. Descending into the lower city, you'll view the Temple Mount and the golden-topped Dome of the Rock. With its stunning blue and gold ceramic tiles, this amazing shrine built in the late 7th century is considered the third holiest site in Islam. You will also visit the famous Western (Wailing) Wall, the holiest site in the Jewish world because it is believed to have been closest to where the Holy Ark once stood.

Exiting the Old City, you'll re-join your coach and enjoy a drive past the city walls and through the Kidron Valley before it's time to travel back to the pier in Haifa.

Enjoy a truly distinctive experience that explores the heart of the Upper Galilee, the charm of Safed, the historically significant Golan Heights and a chance to witness everyday life in a kibbutz.

Boarding your coach at the pier, you'll first travel to the northern Israeli town of Safed via the famous route that was described in James Michener's book, "The Source". Located 3,200 feet above sea level in the mountains of the Upper Galilee, this somewhat modest-sized community is also the highest city in Israel with magnificent commanding views east to the Golan Heights, north to Mt. Hermon and Lebanon, west to Mt. Meron and the Amud Valley, and south to Tiberias and the Sea of Galilee. Historical sources indicate that Safed was founded in the 2nd century AD during Roman times and local legend is that the city was founded by one of Noah's sons after the great flood. During the 13th century, it became the center for many Jewish scholars who founded the Zohar and Kabala theories. Today, Safed has seen a rebirth and resurgence of popularity, becoming once again a center for Jewish learning. This utterly charming mountain enclave with its quaint cobblestone streets has also gained a reputation as being a haven for artists. Your time in Safed includes a visit to the town's vibrant artist colony as well as the ancient Synagogue Quarter.

Leaving Safed, your coach will make its way down from the mountains toward the Sea of Galilee, along the way passing Kurazim, a village that was famous during the time of the Second Temple, the Mishna and the Talmud. Enjoy a picturesque view of the tranquil waters as you travel along the shore before crossing the Jordan River and ascending to the Golan Heights. During Roman times and throughout the Byzantine period, cultural and religious centers flourished here and permanent Jewish settlements, including Kfar Harub, existed until the Islamic conquest. Kfar Harub has since become Kibbutz Kfar Haruv, which was resettled by Americans in 1973. After a guided tour of the kibbutz, a special luncheon experience awaits you as you join the members of the kibbutz during their own lunch break. As you help yourself to the typical kibbutz menu, you'll also enjoy breathtaking vistas of the Sea of Galilee, Tiberias and the Jordan Valley.

The afternoon segment of your tour includes a scenic drive through the countryside, passing Hamat Gader, known for its hot springs and for being the international point where the borders of Syria, Jordan and Israel meet. A final stop will be made at the Yardenit baptismal site where the Jordan River separates from the Sea of Galilee. In this naturally scenic and symbolic setting, pilgrims from around the world come to perform baptismal ceremonies.

During the relaxing journey back to the ship, your coach will travel through Tiberias where you will pass by Beit Shearim, the well-known 2nd century Jewish burial ground. less

Explore the ancient port city of Caesarea Maritime, one of Israel’s major tourist attractions, where you can find an impressive Roman amphitheater and restored Crusader fortifications.

Your tour starts with a scenic coach ride up to Mount Carmel where you will be afforded some magnificent views of Haifa Bay, the golden dome of Haifa's Baha'I Shrine and the city of Acre off in the distance.

Descending back to sea level, you'll enjoy a picturesque drive along the shores of the inviting Mediterranean Sea as you make your way to Caesarea Maritime. This ancient port city which is located between Hedera and Atlit was built by Herod the Great on the ruins of an ancient anchorage known as Stratton's tower. Named in honor of Herod's Roman patron, Augustus Caesar, the city became the capital of Roman and Byzantine Palestine. The city is also known as being the location of the Roman victory celebration after the fall of Jerusalem, as well as the place where Rabbi Akiva and his disciples were executed following the suppression of the Bar Kochba revolt.

A center for Christian learning during the 3rd century, Caesarea is considered an important site in Christian history. It is here that Pontius Pilate governed during the time of Jesus, where Simon Peter converted Cornelius and where Paul was imprisoned for 2 years. Destroyed at the end of the 13th century, this marvelous ancient city boasts an impressive Roman amphitheater where performances are still held today, an impressive Byzantine street, aqueduct and restored Crusader fortifications along with other artifacts. The once grand city, whose remnants are still regally poised on the edge of the brilliant blue waters of the Mediterranean, will no doubt leave you with many lasting memories. All too soon, it's time to re-board your coach for the drive back to the pier in Haifa.

This wonderful half-day tour allows you to fully discover the fascinating UNESCO World Heritage Site of Acre (Akko), whose history dates back almost 4,000 years and which once played a pivotal role during the Crusades.

It's a scenic drive along the coast from Haifa to Acre, where upon your arrival you will immediately begin to experience the decidedly medieval atmosphere of the area as you descend into the headquarters of the Knights of St. John. Part of this underground city was known as the Hospitaler Quarter because it was here that the knights received their medical care. Your tour takes you through a series of barrel-vaulted rooms called the Crusader Halls, which lead to the Refectory (dining hall). Also referred to as the Crypt, it is a true representation of Crusader architecture. Near to the Crypt is a stairway which leads to a long underground passage that is thought to be an escape tunnel that was built by the Crusaders in order to reach the port during attacks by Moslem forces.

Returning to the surface, you will next explore the Ottoman period of Akko's long and colorful history. This portion of your tour has you visiting the lively marketplace with its exotic offerings and intoxicating scents. From the marketplace you will continue on to the enormous Kahn El Umdan, also referred to as the Pillar's Inn, an ancient caravanserai which once served the camel caravans. Before leaving the city behind, you will make a stop at the picturesque Pisan Port which was built by Crusader seamen from Pisa, Italy.

Your relaxing trip back to Haifa includes a photo stop at Mt. Carmel where you will have a breathtaking view of Haifa Bay, the golden dome of Haifa's Baha'i Shrine and Acre in the distance.
