OVERVIEW

Behold one breathtaking view after another while driving up to the edge of the glistening glacier atop Snæfellsjökull, a snow-capped stratovolcano near the western tip of the Snæfellsnes Peninsula. This is the area where the adventurers in Jules Verne’s 1864 novel “Journey to the Center of the Earth” found a passage to the center of the earth, and it has been famous ever since. To reach the glacier, you will transfer into a vehicle with continuous tracks like a tank’s that can easily maneuver through the rugged snow-covered terrain. You will ascend to above 4,600 feet above sea level, a height that will offer a glorious view of the glacier. Although considered an active stratovolcano, Snæfellsjökull hasn’t erupted in 1,800 years. If the weather is clear, you can see all the way across Hellissandur Sound to the Latrabjarg sea cliffs, which mark the westernmost point in Europe.
